Goleta is a coastal city located west of Santa Barbara. The Goleta Valley was known as a prominent lemon growing and argricultural region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the early 1950's the construction of Cachuma Lake created a housing boom. The boom as a result attracted aerospace industries and high-tech firms to the area.
Today, Goleta provides a wide array of amenities. The Santa Barbara Airport, the University of Santa Barbara California, the Goleta Valley hospital, Butterfly Groves and the Bacara Resort are all located within the city. Goleta has several significant parks, including Stow Park, Lake Los Carneros and the newly created Ellwood Open Space on the Bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Goleta Beach County Park is just outside the city limits as well.
